Updated: June 12, 2008, 2 p.m.
BLACKSBURG, Va. — Daniel rising senior cornerback Jerrodd Williams received his first scholarship offer over the weekend, and it didn’t take him long to make a decision.
According to Virginia Tech fan Web site HokieHaven.com, Williams received the offer from the VT staff Saturday while at a camp at the school and committed a short time later.
Williams, an All-Western AAA and All-County selection last season, reportedly received an offer from South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier on Monday after a workout, according to Phil Kornblut of PalmettoSports.com.
Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina have also shown interest in the 6’0”, 185-pound defensive back.
Along with junior Deandre Hopkins, Williams will anchor one of the state’s top defensive backfields this season. Hopkins and Williams combined for 18 interceptions, with three returned for scores, last season en route to the Lions’ first region title since 2001.
