Julia B. Hunnicutt
Easley - Julia Bates Hunnicutt, of 302 Grace Avenue and wife of Henry Wallace Hunnicutt, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Countryside Living Center.
Born in Pickens, a daughter of the late Clive and Annie Belle Henderson Bates, she was a graduate of Pickens High School, Lander University and Southern Wesleyan University and earned her Masters Degree in Education from Clemson University.
She was a retired teacher and was honored as the Pickens County Teacher of the Year in 1985 and a part of West End School is named the Julia B. Hunnicutt Hall.
She was a charter member of the Xi Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa National Honorary Teacher's Sorority, member and Easley representative of the Pickens County Retired Teachers Association, member of the Easley Woman's Club, the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club, was the former Director of the Easley Friends of the Library and Meals on Wheels. As an active member of the Easley First Baptist Church, she was a member of the WMU, the Frances Eller Group, served on numerous committees, was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was one of the first women elected to the Board of Deacons.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sisters, Dorothy Bates of Pickens, Frances B. Vaughan of Monroe, N.C.; nephews and nieces, Gene and Sheri Vaughan and their children, Tyler and Garrett, Lisa and Timothy Coley and their children, Madeline, Amelia, and Julian; Dena and James Stackhouse and Carrie Whitaker and Preston Stackhouse.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Bates; two brothers, William Bates and Clive Reuben Bates and his wife Louella; and a brother-in-law, Ray E. Vaughan.
The funeral services were held 3 p.m. Friday at Easley First Baptist Church with Rev. Drs. John Adams, Lloyd Batson and David Turner officiating. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Arie C. Gaines
Easley - Arie Chastain Gillespie Gaines, 87, formerly of Easley, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek in Arden, N.C.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Julius M. and Pearl Chapman Chastain. Her first husband, and father of her two children, was George W. Gillespie; her second husband was Benjamin F. Gaines.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Gillespie King of Gastonia, N.C., Sandra Gillespie Dodgens of Arden, N.C.; four sisters, Ethel Lesley of Pelzer, Connie Gaillard, Grace Fields, both of Easley, Nellie McGuire of Anderson; five grandchildren, Cynthia King and husband Jerry Adams of Newport, Tenn., Elizabeth King and husband Alan Elkins of Gastonia, N.C., Thomas A. King and wife Leila of Nashville, Tenn., Amy King and husband Haines Higginbotham of Gastonia, N.C., Kendall Dodgens and husband Michael Philabaum of Massillon, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Alex Elkins, Meredith, Carter, and Addison Higginbotham, all of Gastonia, Noah Philabaum of Massillon, Ohio; a special friend, Myra Burrell of Easley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Chastain, Roy Chastain; a sister, Mable Watson; and a son-in-law, Thomas King.
The graveside service was Noon Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Tom Jones officiating.

Rey G. Gonzales
Clemson - Rey Galino Gonzales, 42, of 900 Georgetown Street, died Monday, April 21, 2008.
Born on May 31, 1965 in Gingoog City, Philippines, he was the son of the late Alfredo Gonzales and Emiliana Galino Gonzales.
Rey was an Industrial Engineering graduate student of Clemson University. He was a member of Crosspoint Church in Clemson and the Navigators Ministry in Clemson and in the Philippines.
Surviving is his wife, Alma Oberes Gonzales; a daughter, Dorothy Elise Gonzales; two sisters, Emily Tubio of the Philippines, and Emma Gonzales of Australia; and a brother, Al Gonzales of the Philippines.
The memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Crosspoint Church in Clemson.

Johnathan W. Gilstrap
Sunset - Johnathan William “Snake” Gilstrap, 26, husband of Nicole Gilstrap, of 117 Five Point Drive, died, April 23, 2008 at his residence.
Born in Easley, he was the son of William M. Gilstrap Jr. and Connie Lynn Stewart Gilstrap. Johnathan was employed with Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens and was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a son, Benjamin Brian Gilstrap of the home; sister, Lovetta Kennedy of Pickens; father and mother-in-law, Danny and Shelia Turner; grandparents, Lillian Stewart, Olin and Lillie Masters all of Pickens, Fred and Lucille Turner of Easley; great-grandmother, Janie Mae Smith of Pickens; nieces, Rebecca and Victoria Kennedy and a nephew, Casey Porter.
Grandparents, Ansel Stewart, William and Helen Gilstrap and a sister-in-law, Courtney Mae Turner predeceased him.
The funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Stuart Houston and the Rev. Don Alexander officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Betty Atkinson
Liberty - Betty Davis Atkinson, 78, beloved wife and mother, of 19 Hedgepath Street, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Greenville she was a daughter of the late Rev. James A. Davis and Sue Etta Owens Davis. She was retired from the Quilt Gallery and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby Joe Atkinson of the home; two daughters and sons in law, Sheila and Kelly Wagner of Anderson, and Pamela and Paul McDaniel of Piedmont; four sisters, Florence and her husband Lloyd “Mutt” Sargent of Liberty, Gladys Pressley of Easley, Lois and her husband Rev. Norman Gillespie of Moncks
Corner, and Alta Mae and her husband Rev. Charlie Bowen of Elko; a brother, Rev. Larry J. Davis and his wife Mary Ellen “Bo” of Liberty; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily McDaniel.
The funeral services for Mrs. Atkinson were 3 p.m. Sunday at East Side Baptist Church. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Ardell French
Easley - Ardell Marion Kanfoush French, 83, of 204 Lavonne Avenue, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at her home.
Born in Syracuse, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Edward and Rose Deep Kanfoush. She was a hairdresser for 22 years and was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas French and wife Cheryl of Camden, N.Y., Philip French and wife Terri of Easley; four sisters, Janette Garnsey of Edgewater, Fla., Laura Budlong of New Hartford, N.Y., Alice Cullen of Broomsfield, Colo., Deanne Peters and husband Fred of Oak Hill, Fla.; a brother, Edward Kanfoush and wife Dianne of Seuquoit, NY; a sister-in-law, Rita Kanfoush of New Hartford, NY; a brother-in-law, Richard Olejarczyk of Utica, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Dr. John French and wife Dr. Natalee Frenchand Julie Essary and husband Brandon. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dean Wesley French; two sisters, Sarah Tyburczy, Gladys Olejarczyk; and a brother, Joseph Kanfoush.
The memorial service was 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown with the Rev. Dr. Bill Seel officiating.

Gracie Saribok
Easley - Gracie Ann Wood Saribok, 90, of 103 Anzio Street, wife of the late Samuel Jerome Saribok, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital.
Mrs. Saribok was born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late J.R. and Mary Matilda "Mamie" Mullinix Wood. She was a graduate of Easley High School, Class of 1935. Mrs. Saribok retired from Swirl, Inc. and was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son, William Thomas Saribok and his wife, Sue Craig Saribok, of Norris; a daughter, Barbara Ann Saribok Trotter and her husband, E. Preston Trotter, Jr., of Piperton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Jerome Saribok and brothers, Lee, Frank, Carl, Ed and Tommy Wood.
The funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.

Reverend Jim Lippard
Easley - Reverend Wade Hampton “Jim” Lippard, Jr., 86, of 208 Ridgecrest Drive, died Friday, April 25, 2008.
Born in Statesville, N.C., he was the son of the late Wade Hampton Lippard, Sr. and Myrtle Cavin Lippard.
Reverend Lippard was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist College in Hendersonville, N.C. His ministry began in 1957, and he served churches for 37 years in N.C., S.C. and Tenn. He was a member of 3 & 20 Baptist Church and was a Naval Veteran of WWII having served in the Atlantic and Pacific.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Betty Gregory Lippard of the home, two sons, Ronald W. Lippard and his wife, Tracy, of Pickens and Michael R. Lippard and his wife, Carolyn, of Asheville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Ashley Beebe and her husband, Scott, of Bluffton and David Lippard of Erie, Pa.; four great grandchildren, Brayden Beebe, Jaxon Beebe, Whitt Beebe and Aydin Lippard; four sisters, Blanche Bovender of Winston-Salem, N.C., Alta Pernell of Shelby, N.C., Evelyn Overcash of Denver, N.C. and Ruby Long of Raleigh, N.C.; and two brothers, W.P. Lippard and Grady Lippard both of Statesville, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Sylvia Ann Lippard, a sister, Lucy Forbes and a brother, Lawrence Lippard.
The funeral services were held on Sunday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Liberty - Patricia Yvonne Banville, 19, of 7927 Moorefield Memorial Highway, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at her residence.
Born in Charleston she was predeceased by her biological parents Robert Luke and Angelique Banville. She was a graduate of Liberty High School
Surviving are her parents, Monique Wright and Joe Calzini of the home; a sister, Jonnie Day of Liberty; four brothers, Brian Williams of Fla., Christopher, Anthony, and Joseph Charles Calzini, IV all of Liberty; grandparents, Joseph and Patricia Calzini of Mesa, Arizona, and Patricia Mitchum; great grandmother, Charlotte Dodson of Eugene, Ore.; an aunt, Serena Barbaris; god parents, Walter and Melinda Houston, and Ruth and Greg Hart.
The funeral services to celebrate the life of Patricia were held 6 p.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.

Marian Barker
Six Mile - Marian Gentry Barker, 53, of 1803 Liberty Highway Six Mile, died suddenly Thursday April 24, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Marion and Bobbie Watkins Gentry of Anderson and the wife of Michael Barker.
She was employed with Interim Hospice and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a sister, Mary Rose Gentry of Anderson; a brother, James Gentry of Anderson; and father and mother-in-law, Rev. Doyle and Julia Barker of Six Mile.

Easley - Fay Ruth Gunter Floyd, 74, of 109 South Eighth Street, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at her residence.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Luther and Nellie McGaha Gunter, she was a retired employee with Mayfair Mills and a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are: a son, Charles Danny Floyd and wife, Sandy, of Easley; two daughters, Deborah Black of the home and Mary Charlene Wilson and husband, Arnold, of Pickens; two sisters, Ann Gunter of Greenville and Frances Sewell of Liberty; grandchildren, Bryan Young and wife, Janice, James Floyd and wife, April, Chris Eagan, Russ Eagan, and Matthew Eagan; great-grandchildren, Bre'Anna Young, Kaylee Young, Cody Young, Landon Hostetler and Summer Floyd.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: two brothers, Bill and Dewey Gunter; and two sisters, Helen Sanders and Bertha Hester.
Graveside services will be 4 p.m., Wednesday (today) in Greenlawn Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Roger Couch.

Irene P. Wood
Pickens - Irene P. Wood, 77, wife of Rufus J. Wood, of 757 Belle Shoals Road, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Pickens, SC, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Katie Riggins Pilgrim. She worked for 30 years with Swirl Textiles Inc. and retired from Riverside Textiles in 1994 and was a member of the Prater’s Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy W. and Paige Wood of Seneca; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathie and Michael Masters , Pickens and Karen and Larry Snipes, Greenville; Eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, (today) at Dillard Funeral Home.
